The scarf trend, revisited

You were firmly divided as to whether scarves in the summer are rad or ridiculous. Would you feel differently if that square of fabric were wound round your head instead of your neck

Now that the heat – and humidity – are with us for the next three months, there’s nothing like a pretty silk scarf to cover the wild, swollen strands of summer. By day, you can rock it the way Gwyneth Paltrow’s character Marge did in The Talented Mr. Ripley – as a super-glam ponytail holder.

By night, create a chignon effect the way Tyra Banks did here (in a picture from Vogue Italia) by smoothing it over your head and letting the scarf’s tails hang. You can amp up the glam by knotting the scarf’s tails into a bun.

In my search for fashionable technology, I’ve found that many designers think that if they just make a gadget pink, women will buy it. I’ve also come to understand that technology designers are just beginning to understand women’s fashion. And unfortunately, women who use technology everyday are not voicing their distaste with present designs.

In lieu of these points, sometimes I jump for joy when I run across people who are finally getting the picture. A lot of people ask me where I get the clothes I’m wearing and they’re always surprised when I say where I got them and how much the item cost. Typical reactions include disbelief and jealousy, especially when I’ve spent less than $20 on a pair of shoes identical to an $80 pair someone else owns.

How do you find your own sweet deals and which online shopping destinations will give you the most bang for your buck? Here are a few of my favorite sites and a few of the best items from them that I’ve added to my StyleFeed over time.

Urban Outfitters is a true fashionista’s paradise. Chock full of interesting bohemian pieces, you can find some great clothing for less than $50. Often Urban also carries more expensive lines (upwards of $200), so make sure you don’t fall in love with something before checking the price. Accessories are always a great bet. They have tons of belts, handbags, scarves, etc. Their shoe selection is also enviable. Check out their flats and sandals, I'm a fan of their summer selection.

Inspiration shoes: Use a pair to dream up an entire outfit

I have always loved Christian Louboutin shoes, however I'm not a huge fan of pink. But there is just something about these shoes that pop out at me, maybe it’s the HOT pink colour or the big bow on the toe. Whatever it is, I wish I had the cash in my bank account for them.

Then I thought, “Even if I had the cash, what would I wear them with?”

Then I happened across a photo of this fabulous Marc Jacobs dress paired with the hot pink silk shoes. Genius, right? Now to pull together the rest of the outfit...
